People are always complaining, "It's just too expensive to eat healthy" or "I just don't have time." This is where I say you are wrong, very wrong. Not only is it cheaper than fast food, it's overall less time consuming, and obviously healthier! When you sort out how long it takes you to pick a place to go for fast food, drive there, wait in line, have your order messed up and waiting for a remade unhealthy platter, and then driving back home; you realize this takes a lot of time, money and aggravation. Simple solution; prepare all your healthy meals ahead of time in large enough quantities to last a few days.
My very simple and effective meal plan:
- 3 lbs of chicken-trimmed down of all fat and tendons
- 1 cup of quinoa
- 2 pounds of veggies
Price breakdown:
Additionally I added in the snacks, you can pick what you want but these are very cheap and convient. Bananas are less than 70 cents/lb, apples are around a dollar a pound and my favorite of the sides are the lite greek yogurts. The Vanilla one for example, has no fat, 7 carbs(5 of which are sugar) and 14 grams of protein! That is an awesome in-between snack to grab that tastes great!
- chicken 8lbs=$15.92
- quinoa 16oz=$5.49
- frozen veggies 64oz=$4.00
