HELLO.
I made this website/blog to educate viewers on real research based training and nutrition sciences. There is so much information out there based on guessing, BroScience and uneducated people giving out false or misleading information. I am a certified personal trainer and scholar offering services, knowledge and facts based on years of training, education and research to deliver easy to read and understand information.
DO I REALLY NEED A PERSONAL TRAINER?
A study produced by The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research says you do. The research experiment involved 46 resistance trained women, average age 26, average weight 141 pounds. Each participant, whether accompanied by a personal trainer or not, was asked to select a resistance level they would would use in their own resistance training for 10 repetitions. Ratamess concludes, "These results indicate that resistance training under the supervision of a personal trainer leads to greater initial 1RM(one repetition maximum) strength values, self-selection of greater workout intensities, and greater ratings of perceived exertion values during resistance exercise." Although the subjects of the study were exclusively women, results can be the exact same, regardless of gender.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A PERSONAL TRAINER
Currently, there is no national law saying you have to have any certifications, degrees or special tests saying you can legally train people. Meaning anyone can just walk in off the street and be a Personal Trainer. So how do you know what to look for if anyone can do it? At the very least they need a NCCA-accredited program, such as American Collegiate of Sports Medicine(ACSM), American Council on Exercise(ACE), National Strength and Conditioning Association(NSCA), International Sports Science Association(ISSA), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America(AFAA), International Fitness Professionals Association(IFPA), National Federation of Personal Trainers(NFPT), National Counsil on Strength & Fitness(NCSF), National Academy of Sports Medicine(NASM), National Personal Trainer Institute(NPTI) or ACTION Personal Training Certification. Although a bachelor's degree like Exercise and Sports Science will be even better. Ideally someone with a degree and certification would be perfect... Like me.
